Neuroscientists used to believe that our brains were a case of “what you got, that’s what you’re stuck with”. Brain researchers now believes that isn’t true. We can improve our brains and keep our aging brains sharp. Not surprisingly, between the new research aging baby boomers — voila! a new industry — gyms and spas for the brain.
One such exercise center for the brain is Lumosity which features an online 10-minute brain workout through brain-puzzler games that are supposed to help develop and improve:
- Attention
- Memory
- Cognitive Control
- Processing Speed
Which they claim results in:
- Clearer and quicker thinking
- Improved memory for names, numbers, directions, etc.
- Increased alertness and awareness
- Elevated mood
- Better concentration at work or while driving
Lumosity is not free, but there is a 7-day free trial that contrary to the usual practice, doesn’t require a credit card so it can’t rollover into the paid version at the end of the seven days. It’s worth trying. The games are entertaining and your feel good at the end of the workout with a pleasant feeling of having thought hard and used your brain for a couple of minutes.
If you want to subscribe, it will cost you $9.95 a month or $79.95 a year, which seems a bit steep.
